How the Budget Process Works

Mid-April:

The Massachusetts House Ways and Means Committee releases its proposed budget. If funding for MAC priorities is not included or insufficient, we will ask you to email your legislator to urge them to sign an amendment to increase funding.

Mid-May:

The Senate Ways and Means Committee budget is announced, if necessary, we will again ask you to email your Senator urging them to sign onto budget amendments.

Early/Mid-June:

If funding differs in the House and Senate budgets, members of both branches will hold a Conference Committee to decide what the final budget should include. Should this happen, we will ask you to email both your Senator and Representative urging them to request that funding for our priorities be included in the final legislative budget.

Late June:

After the Legislature finalizes the budget, it goes to the Governor for final approval. If necessary, we may ask you to contact the Governor’s office to request support for our budget priorities.
