Volunteer Spotlight: Barbara McCann
Barbara McCann started her volunteer work with MAC through a connection made by the United Way Executive Volunteer Program. She admired MAC’s “advocacy work for people who have challenges within the school system,” especially during COVID-19. Since she arrived, Barbara has played a key role in the management of overall organizational operations, including transitioning MAC to a new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform in order to expand and enrich resources.
As a former Senior Vice President at BNY Mellon, Barbara likes the role of providing support and resources behind the scenes: “I feel that I’ve been able to jump in and make a difference and feel the impact of it...I feel like I’m helping [MAC] keep their doors open and continue to build their organization and keep it running.”
Barbara’s passion for serving others extends beyond MAC. Barbara worked as the President of the Women’s Lunch Place in Boston for two years, and does work with the Huntington Avenue YMCA, which is dedicated to providing meals, groceries, and childcare to those who need it.
For MAC’s Executive Director, Kevin Murray, Barbara has been a lifesaver. “The arrival at MAC of a woman with Barbara’s skills at a moment of such need suggests divine intervention. We are so grateful to her and to the United Way program that brought her to us. I hesitate to think where we’d be right now without Barbara.”
