Town Hall Action Meeting: Black in the Boston Public Schools
MAC, along with the NAACP, the Lawyer's Committee, and the ACLU among others, is helping to organize and sponsor a town hall action meeting: Black in the Boston Public Schools. The meeting will be held on Saturday, June 11th from 9:00 am-2:00 pm at Greater Love Tabernacle Church (101 Nightingale St, Dorchester Center, MA 02124).
The meeting, facilitated by Boston Latin School senior Meggie Noel and thought leader and social entrepreneur Tulaine Montgomery, is an opportunity for students, parents, educators, and activists to strategize around persistent issues of racial discrimination and racial disparities in the Boston Public Schools. The goal is to come up with an action plan for moving the district forward.
MAC has been at the forefront of equality and access issues in BPS, including teacher diversity and English language learners. MAC’s director of the Boston School Reform project, Kim Janey, advocated for the creation of the Boston School Committee's Opportunity and Achievement Gap Task Force, on which she currently sits. She was also recently recruited to serve on the new BPS Exam School Admissions Work Group, which is charged with making recommendations that would result in increasing access to the three exam schools in Boston.
