Thanking Bill Crane on his retirement: His final blog post

With deep gratitude and our best wishes for his retirement from the law, we share Bill Crane’s final post for his MAC blog.  We will miss his thoughtful counsel, calm demeanor, and the informed perspective he shared with us, drawing upon his experiences from his long year career in disability law and mental health policy.

Bill has served in a pro bono capacity as Of Counsel to MAC for approximately three years. During his time with MAC, Bill worked with other MAC attorneys on a wide array of systemic special education issues, and his brilliant thinking and cogent writing contributed greatly to many legislative and policy initiatives focused on issues such as transition, independent evaluations, AAC, and autism. Bill also consulted to attorneys representing low-income parents and students in special education disputes, and he authored a series of blog posts on the MAC website about special education law and practice that came to be known as “Bill’s Blog”.  Bill’s blog has been widely read, shared and appreciated by the legal community and advocates.

Robert Crabtree, Bill’s colleague and friend of MAC from Kotin, Crabtree & Strong, LLP, wrote, “Bill has been one of the most thoughtful and compassionate advocates we have known in the field of special education and disability law,” and praised Bill for his lasting, invaluable contributions to the field and characteristic kindness and insight.
