Lawrence Inclusion Initiative: New Partnership with Lawrence CommunityWorks
MAC is pleased to partner with Lawrence CommunityWorks on the new Lawrence Inclusion Initiative. This project aims to provide more inclusive options for students with disabilities in the Lawrence Public Schools (LPS).
Lawrence CommunityWorks (LCW) is a community development corporation that weaves together community planning, organizing, and asset-building efforts with high-quality affordable housing and commercial development to create vibrant neighborhoods and empowered residents. By facilitating conversations and action on community priorities, LCW engages partners and a network of youth and adult residents in opportunities to move themselves and the city of Lawrence forward.
Ninety-four percent of LPS students identify as Hispanic and 20% of LPS students have disabilities. “We’re pleased to have the support of this strong community partner in advancing inclusion and educational opportunity, a goal both of our organizations are truly passionate about,” said Kevin Murray, MAC’s Executive Director.
This work builds on the foundation created by Parents Concerned About Autism in Lawrence, a parent group MAC organized more than a decade ago to support parents of children and youth with autism in Lawrence.
The Lawrence Inclusion Initiative is made possible by support from The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation.
